Topic: Using RealText
DaleB: hmmm...was going to talk some about RealText tonight, but not many
people have come
Lyndra: (4DaleB): what's that?
DaleB: RealText allows you to add a text file to your RealMedia files..whether
they be video or music
DaleB: RT is a natural for CSO folks..'cause you can share your recording
and a text file of the lyrics at the same time
Lyndra: oooo
Dee: ooooooooooooooooooooo, too
Dee: oh, that's sounds fun, how hard is that to do
Dee: is there a webpage that teaches that or what?
DaleB: (Dee): yeah..lemme find it
DaleB: http://service.real.com/help/library/guides/realtext/htmfiles/realtext.htm

DaleB: (MMissary2in1): we haven't had much discussion of RealText yet
Dee: three sentences, I think
rhema: Is that what the topic is tonight??
*** Signoff: Dee (Connection reset by peer)
DaleB: we could discuss RealText some more, but Dee seemed interested and she got disconnected

MMissary2in1: Welcome Back Dee
rhema: hey......great timing dale!
DaleB: woohoo!
MMissary2in1: Too bad you can't just type up a simple file and place it in
real audio.
DaleB: wb Dee
DaleB: (MMissary2in1): yeah...but it shouldn't be too bad if you just put
up an entire verse or chorus at one time
DaleB: (rather than line by line)
MMissary2in1: yeah, was looking at the message Ken sent out about it, looks
simple, maybe.:-)
Dee: hahaha, grandson unpluged the phone cord
MMissary2in1: I did download the authoring kit, so I have that.
DaleB: uh oh..was wondering what happened ;-)
*** Liane has joined channel #christian-songwriters
MMissary2in1: would be nice if they had an integrated program for it though.
Liane: hi
DaleB: Hello Liane, welcome to CSO chat!
MMissary2in1: Well hellooo, Liane!!!!:-)
rhema: People getting here late tonight..
Liane: was watching something and forgot about chat!
DaleB: (rhema): you said it!
MMissary2in1: LOL, Helen!
Liane: why was everyone else late tonight?

MMissary2in1: so, back to real text.......any discussion?:-)
DaleB: brb
rhema: What's there to discuss...it's cool!
DaleB: well..here's the URL for the site:
http://service.real.com/help/library/guides/realtext/htmfiles/realtext.htm
MMissary2in1: The authoring kit has sample files.
Liane: how did Ken know what time to put each line?
DaleB: he would have had to listen to the file and watch the time indicator
Liane: He had each line appear at certain points in the song eg
1.33
MMissary2in1: I think he probably looked at the time sceem of the song.
Dee: if you add all that to your songs, will it take a million years to download?
MMissary2in1: they are very small files.
Dee: o
DaleB: (Dee): Ken's file worked fine for me
Liane: you just adding text right?
MMissary2in1: did me too.
DaleB: (Liane): yeah
Liane: like a .ram file?
*** marors has joined channel #Christian-Songwriters
DaleB: Hello marors, welcome to CSO chat!
marors: hello
Liane: ram files upload in seconds
Dee: well, I was talking about that bouncing ball type thing
MMissary2in1: well, if I recall , there's three files invovled.
MMissary2in1: 3 Welcome To The Christian Songwriting Org Chat marors!
Liane: .smil file
Liane: and .rt
marors: thank you
DaleB: actually 4 files to stream
DaleB: .rm, .rt, .smil, and .ram
Liane: I think the .rt is the text... and the .smil ties the .rt and the
.rm together... while the .ram tells the player to look at the smil file
DaleB: (Liane): exactly
DaleB: the smil file is just a pointer to the rt and rm
Dee: sounds like a lot of "fun"
Liane: lol
DaleB: streaming the text (rt file) adds on a small amount of data to the
stream
MMissary2in1: more to confuse everyone about Real Audio.:-)
DaleB: meant to say ONLY a small amount of data
Dee: took me 3 months to figure out what I have
Liane: yeah I can see myself trying to explain this one now!
Liane: (to certain people who are just now beginning to enter the world of
.rm's and .ram's)
DaleB: easiest way would be to have a whole verse or chorus or bridge (whatever)
come up at the same time
MMissary2in1: that would be best since it stays on the screen till the next
section is called for.
DaleB: that way you would only have to find about 5 or 6 time stamps for
the whole file
Dee: that doesn't sound so bad
Dee: or as bad
DaleB: yeah
MMissary2in1: kinda like a karaoke file of sorts.:-)
Dee: those are fun, just got the machine, :o)
Liane: yes definately... one line at a time is too much... besides... I prefer
looking forward to the next line already there rather than trying to keep
up with each line
DaleB: you COULD look at it that way
MMissary2in1: 2L4aughs 2O4ut 2L4oud
Dee: oh, yeah, cuz wondering what is coming up could get confusing
MMissary2in1: now we'll have to run out and get .kar file players as well.:-)
Liane: yeah, that's what I meant
DaleB: I enjoyed Ken's commentary on the song intro though
Liane: me too
Liane: that was funny!
MMissary2in1: he did a good job with it.
Liane: yes
DaleB: did anyone get Walter's attempt to work?
rhema: I feel like I'm stuck in math again...
DaleB: I got a file not found error
DaleB: (rhema): why?
MMissary2in1: haven't seen that msg I don't think, least don't recall it.
rhema: I have no idea what you guys are talking about..
Dee: lol

marors: Goes twice for me
MMissary2in1: 3 Welcome To The Christian Songwriting Org Chat lambb!
DaleB: (marors): whoops..forgot you were here ;-)
DaleB: got carried away with the conversation
marors: thats ok
marors: i found it interesting, mind boggeling
MMissary2in1: we're dicussing real text lambb
DaleB: anything more we need to say about RealText?
Dee: probably a lot after I try to figure it out, haha
DaleB: I haven't actually tried using it..but I think I have a pretty good
understanding of how it works
rhema: Well, if it involves all that I am probably better off just enjoying
the ones others make...
Liane: lol Helen
AXEMAN: Any body here try that RealText out yet?
MMissary2in1: you did a great job Ken.
AXEMAN: it was really fairly straight forward. A bit time consuming to work
out the timing part but not that hard
